Requires:

  • Utility knife/box cutter blade
  • 4 x M3 nuts
  • 2 x 12mm M3 hex head bolts
  • 2 x 4mm M3 hex head bolts
  • (optional, for magnetic variant) 4 x 6Øx4mm cylinder magnets

Print the tang and either a set (one each of bite and safe) of handles or a set of magnetic handles (dark blue balisong in photos). Optionally, print the blade for a mock knife.

For better movement, lube the tang at the interface with the handles - silicon lube works. Fasten bite handle to the bite (sharp) side of the tang. Fasten safe handle to the safe side of the tang with 12mm bolts. The nuts should fit completely into the recesses. One easy way to fit a nut in a recess is to thread it on a bolt and push it into the recess. If it looks like force is required for full seating of a nut, it's sufficient to seat it partially and use the tightening of the bolt, during assembly, to press fit the nut into the handle. Over tighten the bolts and then loosen them a bit until the handles move freely without wobbling. The balisong should move smoothly throughout the entire range of motion.

If printing the magnetic variant, press fit magnets into the holes in the handles while ensuring that polarities are correct such that the balisong will clasp both open and closed. The magnets should recess about .5mm into the handles. Magnet insertion can be done only once so be sure magnet polarities are correct.

Tightly fasten utility blade to tang with 4mm bolts.
