The two Universal Filament Spool Holder models from which this model is remixed have the same shaft diameter and thread as one another, so their spool retention nuts are perfectly interchangeable. I took advantage of that fact, to design this remixed nut as a Boolean Union of the two, concentrically aligned.
The Gen 2 model is compatible with larger-diameter filament spool holes than is Gen 1. It also sports an innovative new spool retention nut, with a rapid-release feature.
This alternative spool retention nut is designed for those of us who prefer to spin the nut on and off, instead of using the quick release feature, and for those who may have printed one of the Gen 1 models but now want to use the spools with the larger hole size.
I made this nut in a very lazy way; I simply performed a Boolean Union of the Gen 1 and Gen 2 nuts, to make one new nut that works with the larger spool holes.
I made no attempt to fill the slots where the Gen 2 sliders would go, since they do not interfere with the operation of the nut. Someone with more skills editing stp files may want to make a cleaner version of this. (The stp models are posted with the Universal Filament Spool Holder models.)
To clean-up the installed “look” of the new nut, I resized a Gen2 Nut body to 10mm high, and mirrored* it, to create an optional decorative end-cap. That cap can be glued to the front-facing end of the new retention nut, to create a “classy” finished look. (*Note: the end cap in the attached photo was a prototype, from before I thought of mirroring the model, as posted.)
Many thanks to PurchenZuPoden, for sharing his awesome models.
