Fully enclosed guide for shift/brake/hydraulic cable housing.

Requires a small zip tie.

I recommend applying some hot glue to the area that sits on your frame, letting it cool off a little bit, then pressing it on your frame to get the curvature. This will leave a little area with a lot of friction to keep it from sliding around even with the zip tie. The dried glue is easily removed entirely & reapplied.

How I Designed This

  • 4.17 mm diameter shift cable housing: scaled by 115% to compensate for shrinking
  • I measured the tubes on my 1985 road bike, so it's designed to wrap around standard round steel tubing: average(28.85 mm downtube, 29.01 mm seat tube, 25.56 mm top tube) = 27.81 mm generic tube
  • zip tie was 1 mm thick, 2.55 mm wide. Scaled both dimensions by 115% as well.

Functionally similar to this (https://www.amazon.com/Origin8-Plastic-Cable-Guides/dp/B000AP0AFK).

The brake version relies on a 4.95 mm diameter brake cable housing. Everything else is virtually the same.

I measured my hydraulic line (Shimano), & it was about 4.97 mm in diameter, so it should work with the brake version.

Future Improvements

Leave a little cutout for the cable to snap in/out. I don't trust the 3D printed material to withstand this more than a couple times unless you get one of those elastic filaments, which I don't care to test. Maybe someone should remix it.
