Solidworks model for a parametric stacked wave spring.

I couldn't find a satisfactory wave spring model in Solidworks, so I made my own. It will be used in a future design. In theory it should work for extension & compression; my application requires compression.

16 Sep 18: Added more variables.

There are three main objects here: the wave, the top & the bottom "washers". The wave geometry is governed by the WaveOD, WaveID, & SectionHeight.

Each wave has 4 top & bottom contacts.

Now the top & bottom "washers" can be manipulated separately from the wave geometry.

Here are the configurable variables:

  • WaveOD
  • WaveID
  • BottomOD
  • BottomID
  • BottomHeight: or thickness of just the bottom "washer"
  • TopOD
  • TopID
  • TopHeight
  • Overlap: how much each wave will merge with its neighbors for strength, at the cost of reduced spring action
  • SectionHeight
  • TotalHeight
  • NumWaves: number of desired waves making up the stack. Must be greater than 3.

The cross-section is a rectangle with SectionHeight as its height, and (WaveOD-WaveID)/2 as its width.

We'll have to see how well this actually prints or functions.

I have not tested it yet.

Future improvement

Add else cases for NumWaves < 4.
