------ WORK IN PROGRESS -------
Design;
Really liked the concept of Devan at MakeAnything 4 years ago, but I did not like the long design of his geared knob.
Therefore, I made this Concentric geared knob with a ratio of 3:1 to quickly scroll up to 250C or 90C for the bed. While still keeping the ability to move precisely with the normal knob!
Every connection has a 0,3mm tolerance in XY and 0,25mm tolerance in the Z direction, so you should be able to print it without issues.
Recommended to print in SLS/DLP, but for FDM I recommend using at least 4 perimeters and an infill of 40% for the strongest results. PLA should work fine, although PETG will be more durable.
Usable with any knob you can find on the internet!!
---- This is still a work in progress which I will update until it works flawlessly. Unfortunately, do not have access to a Prusa printer all the time, so testing will take a little while ----
Let's make this work together!;
Because I can only test 1 day every 1 or 2 weeks on a Prusa printer, you can help me design this knob and mechanism!
You can print this model, and provide feedback wherever you find relevant!
I will try to answer most of your feedback and suggestions to make this work as best as possible!
Also; Please leave a like, comment or make if you support this project!
Cad files are open for download and modification, but it would be appreciated if you link this page for reference.
Assembly instructions;
Remove your current knob and glue/stick the baseplate onto the LCD bezel, the longer side of the baseplate has an edge that you can align to the right side of the bezel.
Make sure the LCD knob is perfectly centred inside the hole of the baseplate.
After that, you can place the 2 middle gears on the poles on top;
Then place the outer ring over these gears;
After that, turn the outer knob to align the gears middle gears to fit with the knobs cut out teeth, and put the knob in, you should push it over the LCD encoder stem to secure all of the gears;
All done; good luck scrolling!
Changelog;
02/11/2022
- Updated baseplate for Prusa mini. (V4)
27/10/2022
- Added a baseplate for the Prusa Mini!
17/07/2022 (thanks to feedback of Kuba Smołka)
- More tolerances fixed for middle gears for better FDM print compatibility (V16)
- Tolerances fixed for Knobgear and LCDstem for better FDM print compatibility (V23/V4)
16/07/2022
- Tolerances fixed for middle gears (V15)
13/07/2022;
-Made a knob gear which, instead of a knob, just extends the LCD knob ‘stem’, so you can print any of the competing and amazing LCD knobs, while still using the gearing mechanism!
- Split the LCD bezel and pins for better printability (V6)
- I did not like that the knob covered a part of the reset button.
Therefore I added a file to print and replace the entire LCD bezel. It is an optional print to use instead of the baseplate, but it integrates the baseplate into the bezel and relocates the reset button a bit for better access.
- Rotated the embossed pattern around outer gear to leave walls thicker for FDM (V22)
- Added a slot so the knob clamps the encoder better (V22)
- Added assembly instructions with images to printables.
- Added spacer ring to the knobgear to glide easier over the outer ring. (V21)
- Added holes in the knobgear to be able to insert it while the rest is in place. (V20)
