This design was created instead of buying a commercial option that runs on AA batteries. Besides the 3D printed parts, you will need the following:
5/16 inch diameter 4ft fiberglass rod
Orange flag
1156 LED light bulb
1156 socket
~4 ft of 20 gauge wire
2 X Solder & Seal connectors
Zip ties
Your favorite adhesive that works with plastic and fiberglass (I used JB Weld's Marine Weld).
The appropriate quick-disconnect to wire this light to your kayak's 12VDC battery.
Track nuts and bolts to mount to your kayak
Basic Assembly Steps:
Leave a loop of ground wire (attached to the spring-loaded base of 1156 socket) inside the NavLightHolder so that the base can still move.
Secure the socket inside the NavLightHolder so that it doesn't move when inserting a bulb. Then use the Solder & Seal connectors to connect the 48" wire to the 1156 socket leads. A small amount of adhesive may be applied to the top of the flag pole then insert the pole into the NavLightHolder.
Zip tie the 48" wire to the flag pole every 6 to 8"
Mate the FlagHolderBase and the FlagHolderSocket then insert the flag pole through the top of the FlagHolderSocket. Apply adhesive of choice and push the flag pole into the FlagHolderSocket until it hits the bottom of the Flag Holder Base. Allow sufficient time for the adhesive to cure.
Use a zip tie above and below triangle flag to keep it in its vertical position.
