This is a part to mount a camera to the shoulder strap of a backpack so it can be accessed quickly. It consists of a part that is screwed to the camera and two parts that clamp around the shoulder strap. 

It is not wide enough to be mounted around the entire shoulder strap including the cushioning. My backpack has a strap on top of the cushioning that I mounted the parts to. Depending on the softness of your cushioning, the weight of your camera and how the parts of your backpack are sewed together, the camera will wobble sideways quite a bit. If you don’t want that, you might want to use a wider mounting mechanism than the one I designed here. 

The plate that mounts onto the camera is not compatible with any quick release tripod plates, but it is designed to be easy to unscrew by hand. So you can just unscrew the plate and screw the camera on a tripod. 

The part includes a bistable print in place locking mechanism that latches in the locked or unlocked state. 

Additional Hardware needed: 

  • 4x m3 nut
  • 4x m3x10 countersunk bolt
  • short ¼" hex bolt
  • piece of 1 mm self-adhesive silicone

Assembly: 

  • put the nuts in their spots in the main plate
  • place the backpacks trap between the main plate and the back plate and screw them together from the back using the four countersunk bolts 
  • cut out a piece of silicone, stick it to the camera plate, and trim it to its final size with a knife 
  • drill a hole for the camera screw through the silicone
  • put the camera screw in the camera plate and screw it to the camera
  • if the lens is not aligned with the camera plate, unscrew the plate, remove the bolt, rotate it as needed, put it back in the plate and screw it back to the camera 

Printing: 

I printed all parts in (Prusament) ASA without support material. I printed them with a 1.05 extrusion multiplied in the slicer for maximum strength.
