Overview

This model has a top portion that holds one end of the sewing tape measure and a bottom portion that can rotate relative to the top portion.  The top portion has a ring that snaps into a corresponding groove in the bottom portion.  You can see this in the cross-sectional view and animation of the CAD model as shown below:

Top Portion Options

I included two different versions of the top portion depending on user preference.  One version has a dimple that you can use with your finger to spin the top and a slot that can be engaged by a flathead screwdriver or a coin.  The other version omits the dimple and just has the slot since the dimple can be hard to print.

Assembly Instructions

Step 1: Print out the top portion of your choosing and the bottom portion on a 3D printer as shown below.

Step 2: Insert one end of the sewing tape measure into the slot at the bottom of the top portion to secure the sewing tape measure in the top portion.  You can also partially (or fully) wind the sewing tape measure around the top portion as shown below:

Step 3: Guide the loose end of the sewing tape measure through the corresponding slot on the bottom portion and snap the top portion into the bottom portion as shown below:
