Rainbow Globe Cage - Mk1

Background

This is aimed at helping a clumsy person reduce the risk of broken glass. They use a Sneaky Pete Mega Globe from Vape Wellness to bubble filter their medical cannabis vapour. This device adds a little bling with colour-changing LEDs but more importantly offers the glassware a little protection.

Design

Two key features - hold and light up the Mega Globe.

The lighting was inspired by the low-cost cost LED rings that are widely available. Those featured in this design were supplied by Two Day-LED via AliExpress. In this case, an 8, 16 and 24 LED Ring with a controller.

The recess in the base has some clip features to hold the rings and a turn/snap lid to protect them.

Some improvements are already planned. First to fit the globe more snuggly and secondly to reduce print time and give the base a more curved and comfortable feel if it's being held rather than used as a stand. Other potential improvements include the method of fixing the lid - snap-on at the moment.

Printing & Finishing

This print was made with eSun's eTwinkle PLA supplied by 3DFilaPrint. This is a clear filament with a fine glitter dispersed through its length. As you can see, it has a translucent printed finish with the glitter adding to the frosty appearance.

It lights up will but the glitter does not appear to add to that lit appearance. 

Basic Print Settings

0.2mm Layers, 0.8mm shell, 20% Fill

Support touching base plate for the cage base.

If your globe is being used with a pass-through adapter you might also want to consider the 10 & 14mm Stoppers or the Whip Adaptor.
