Description

PDF

This is a modification to the original ender 3 (not v2) to allow for it to mount the Stealthburner fan shroud created by the Voron team. It also comes with a small adapter to be able to mount an LGX Lite as its extruder. With how the mount is designed, I'm fairly certain that you won't be able to use the clockwork extruders but I haven't actually looked into that very much so I could be wrong.

NOTE

This shroud was designed around the 6-fin Phaetus BMS hotend and the toolhead/lower body of the shroud available here is the BMS 6-fin toolhead from the Stealthburner Repo which I then modified to fit the mounting design. I cannot guarantee that any other hotend (except maybe creality/ender 3 style hotends) will work with this mod.

Features

  • Space cutout to allow for a 4020 axial fan as the heatsink cooler.
  • BLTouch support.
  • LGX Lite mount.
  • No hotend offset = no loss in buildplate area.

Printing Recommendations

There are no supports required for the models except for the toolhead (but in this case I have modelled in supports). The models in the 3mf files are already correctly oriented so just load the 3mf files into your slicer of choice and print away!

For print settings, I recommend:

  • Nozzle Size: 0.4mm
  • Layer Height: 0.2mm
  • Perimeters: 3-4
  • Top-Bottom Layers: 4-5
  • Infill: Gyroid (my infill of choice but you are free to use anything else like cubic)
  • Infill Percentage: 10-20%

For filament, I printed my shroud in Filamentum PLA Extrafill Vertigo Starlight. After many days worth of printing the fan exhaust has not sagged/melted/drooped at all however I only print PLA and PETG so if you wanted to print some higher temp materials like PC or Nylon then I suggest printing it in PETG or even better ABS if you have the setup to do so.

Firmware

BLTouch

The BLTouch offsets are:

X: -45.5

Y: -9.4

Hotend Offsets

This mount keeps the hotend in its stock mounting position meaning you don't lose any buildplate area when installing this mount.

Installation

First off there are lots of great assembly videos for the Stealthburner. The one I suggest is:

By Roma Aquatics

Another great one is:

By Maple Leaf Makers - Skip to around 5:00 for the main shroud assembly.

Those videos (and more that I haven't listed here) will have you covered when it comes to more general Stealthburner assembly steps. For this mod, in particular, there are multiple images attached to this page which annotate what you need and where.

For the 8.35mm sleeve bushing, you can just reuse the bushing on the existing Ender 3 X gantry V-rollers.

Hardware
  • 10x M3 Nylok Nuts (6x minimum, 4 is optional)
  • 8x M3x25mm Screws (6x minimum, 2 screws can be left out for the 4020 fan)
  • 2x M3x6mm Countersunk Screws (for 5015 fan)
  • 4x M3x6mm Cap/Button head Screws (For mounting LGX Lite to LGX Lite Adapter. 2x minimum, 4 is optional)
  • 2x M3x8mm Screws (for mounting LGX Lite Adapter to back adapter)
  • 2x M3x12mm Screws (for BLTouch)
  • 3x M3x16mm Screws (for front plate top side holes. Only 1 needed. Others are optional)
  • 1x M3x8mm Screw (for bottom mounting hole on front plate)
  • 2x M3x5.7mm Heated Inserts. These are the ones I used.

Downloads

The relevant 3MF, STP and f3d files can be found in the downloads section. For other file types please check the link below to the Fusion360 Share Link:

The Fusion360 project is very slow due to the conversion of the base Stealthburner models from triangle meshes to B-Reps. If anyone knows a better way of using complex mesh models like this in Fusion please let me know!

Inspirations

This mounting design was inspired by BoothyBoothy's Hydra fan duct.
