This is my 3rd version of landing gear for the E-flite Opterra. Version 1 and 2 used double sided tape to attach to the unmodified keel of the plane. On a semi-hard landing I managed to break the plastic keel instead of having the tape come loose.
This version completely replaces the existing keel with a 3d printed one.
This is a big print. It requires a 300x300 printer to fit diagonally as it prints all as one piece.
It has a little winglet on it just to blend in the rear wheel arms that help give some support to the landing gear wires.
I use RC Canopy glue to attach it where the existing keel used to be.
Gently pull the original black plastic keel off.
Dry fit new keel onto plane.
Mark where the servo goes.
Cut a hole in the foam of the keel just deep enough for the servo to sit flat in the keel.
once you are satisfied with the fit. use a flexible, low-bond strength glue to attach the gear to the plane (you want the glue to break in a crash so it is repairable.)
I used 3/32 wire for the gear. It should be tall enough to have at least 1 inch - 3cm of prop clearance when sitting on the wheels.
