I purchased the REI Co-Op Camp Stool to use while I fly FPV Drones.  It is lightweight and collapses down nicely for packing-in and packing-out of flight spots.

A combination of my body mass and soft ground caused the stock feet to sink into the soft earth and the force was applied at an angle, splitting one of the feet.

I improved the original design by:

  1. Increasing the surface area of the foot by about 4.5x.  This will help distribute the weight and increase the area in contact with the ground.  This will prevent sinking in to the surface as weight is applied.
  2. Creating an inner core that fits up inside the aluminum legs of the chair so as to help spread the forces along more of the plastic part.  Plus, this help with a more positive fit.
  3. Increasing the overall thickness of material fitting on the outside of the chair leg.

The design was completed with Fusion360 and took approximately 30 minutes to design.  A video of the design process is shown here.

I printed this with:

  • PETG - Black
  • 100% Infill - for increased strength
  • Without Supports - placing the foot on the build plate provides sufficient bed adhesion and allows the angle of the print-lines to better accept the downward stresses.

As always, please feel free to ask any/all questions.

Please comment, rate, and post a make if you found the print useful.  I design for myself, but I enjoy sharing with the community as my problem/fixes may help someone else.
