I was tired of my robot vacuum climbing on the footplate of my kitchen table, so I designed these bumper extensions that will make it stop at any ~7 mm high obstruction. Obviously, it is not good for carpets ;)

Now with step file for remixing.

Print Settings

Printer:

Heavily modded Craftbot

Rafts:

No

Supports:

Yes

Resolution:

Anything up to about 0.25mm

Infill:

33%

Notes:

Use a tough material like ABS, PETG, tough PLA or even nylon, I suspect regular PLA will chip after a while. Print hot for good layer adhesion, the default model orientation should be best. Remove supports.

Post-Printing =============

Mounting

Using a small Phillips screwdriver, unscrew the three little screws holding each of the two bottom parts of the bumper. Move the screws in the printed bumper extensions and screw them where the bottom parts were, taking care which part is on the left and which on the right.

How I Designed This ===================

I put one of the bottom parts of the bumper on my regular document scanner and made a .jpeg scan. I then took the scan and placed it into Fusion as a canvas and calibrated it using the distance between the furthest edges. After that it is just a matter of sketching on top of the canvas :)
