A remix from Tiny Compliant Fidget Toy This multi-stable mechanism has 256 different states. It's a physical byte, and it's equivalent to an 8-bits DIP switch used in electronics.

As the author of the original design says, bistable mechanisms are fascinating, and the reason for me is that they store information. This 8x version saves one of 256 possible states. (you can assign each state to an ASCII character). If you carry two of these in your key-ring you can save your initials.
