As a cheap dry storage box for filament, IKEA Samla boxes (57x39x28 cm) are used by many.

Sadly, when using a short piece of pipe to hold filaments, changing just one without disturbing the other three is very hard.

Each Samla box can hold up to 4 spools with 70mm width.
While the included filament spools from the MMU2S fit into the samla box, they are too wide so only 2 filaments fit in there.

This would mean a lot of wasted space since you now need 3x IKEA samla boxes or one huge one.

This print is the solution:

2 Filament Spools on Prusa MMU2S spools in the first Samla Box, and 3 in the 2nd one.

Print instructions

  • Print 3x "spool roll bottom" and 6x "spool roll insert"
  • Fit the ends of the rollers into skate bearing
  • Push skate bearing assembly into place (will click into place)
  • Insert M3 brass insert with soldering iron
  • Connect three spool rolls into a big assembly

Upgrade:

  • Add Caps to make the spools not slide off (and make it more beautiful)
  • New designed rollers - print standing up with snug supports
  • +5mm wider version - my 3DJake Spool is not really fitting the 75mm version
    • Only 2x80mm spool holders fit, so combine it with 1x75mm
