Professional wedding cinematographer here, and my company loves the Sony A73s with Manfrotto quick-release shoes. There were two problems though with attaching the shoe directly to the bottom of the camera:
- The center of gravity is too far back when a lens is attached
- The shoe can pivot left and right, since there's nothing holding it in place.
My solution is what I call a foot, since it goes on top of the shoe. My company has been using these for 4 years and have been satisfied with them, and I just did a revision this year to improve the fit and stability. Some basic hardware is needed, and can be cut to size:
- ¼-20 screw
- ¼-20 threads
- Washer
Needs only a little support, and print settings are pretty basic:
- Recommended material: ABS, though PLA works too
- Print speed: 60mm/s
- Infill: 80%
