I've had this HF cord reel for years. When I first got it, I cut the end off the cord, drilled a hole to the center, and let the cord dangle out - so I could use the cord without fully unwrapping it - it makes putting the cord in and out easy!
But the dangling bit would flop around, necessitating the reach from reel to outlet to be extra short.
This is a way to hold the weighty plug retained and on axis.
It right now works with just the Home Depot plug I have on there, and the rather high capacity cord. You install it by stretching the frame apart, putting in the center bit, pulling the frame back over and installing the retaining ring. You can probably leave the ring out.
It's all a little snug - if there's interest in the part I'll make stuff more compliant, or redo the assembly so that the part you insert is smaller. But for now I'm posting it to see if anyone wants those improvements - mine is installed so I have no need to take it further.
Hope it helps someone.
