Like many people who use a Pinion gearbox offroad, I was unhappy with it being both the lowest point and exposed to impacts from stones from below. I also wanted some protection for the belt drive sprocket, as it's expensive to replace and a single rock can do that for you.
This is a work in progress. My end goal is to print this part with as little infill as possible and fill it with epoxy to make it really strong.
Printer Brand:
Prusa
Printer:
I3 MK3S
Rafts:
No
Supports:
No
Resolution:
0.3 mm
Infill:
25%
Filament: Prusa PETG or ABS any
Notes:
Print with many perimeters (I used 4), also for the bash guard area I highly recommend using a modifier to print this at 100%, which is not necessary for the rest of the part.
I have printed this in both PETG and ABS, ABS is nominally stronger and more resistant to impacts, but getting good layer adhesion is hard. I have an enclosure, do not try to print ABS without an enclosure. PETG is probably easier to handle and almost as strong.
Contours were taken off a model of the gearbox. This was really hard as many surfaces were faulty.
