After gathering some ideas around here, I designed my own spoolholder where the spool rests on 608ZZ bearings. Easy to load and very smooth in supplying filament to the extruder.
Design is for spools with total width of around 70 mm. If needed I can add bars for other size spools or even an adjustable version. When you want something, just leave a comment.
Update (Feb.12/'17):
Since there are different size spools I created some parts that make the whole design adjustable in width. With the adjustable bars you can go up to 110 mm wide spools. You need the two bars and 8 adjustment clamps. These are designed to be fixed in place using M3x10mm (>8mm) and square M3 nuts (DIN562). Since I only have one size spools, I haven't made these parts yet.

Infill:
<=50% & 100%
Notes:
Both bars I have printed with 100% infill. The supports parts I printed at 50%. You might easily get away with less.
I've done my prints in PETG using Simplify3D @ 65mm/sec
I used 4 bearings type 608ZZ (outside diameter 22 mm, inside diameter 8mm, thickness 7mm)
Design has small holes where you can use a small screw to press material out to clamp bearing. So far, I didn't need it, it was tight enough.
