I had an old iPhone 5 docking station lying around ever since I went for the iPhone 6, years ago. It became useless because the slot where you placed the iPhone 5 was to narrow to fit any of the later models that has a case in place. I just didn’t like to take the case off every time.
As the lightning connector is still the same, it was actually too bad not to use such an expensive original Apple part. Therefore I designed this new top that fits over the existing bottom part which holds the lightning female and male connectors. The bottom has a aluminum bracket to add a counter weight to the docking station. I had to use a bench grinder to grind away a few millimeters so it would allow some extra space for phones with a case.
In the photo’s you’ll see the new printed top part on the left and the original iPhone 5 top on the right.

Notes:
I printed it upside down for a smooth top finish. I used supports for the phone slot and for the notches that click into the original bottom part.
