I really disliked the stock filament sensor and top down filament feed. It put strain on the extruder and was just flimsy. The cable mount on the extruder was also causing a lot of stress on the cable.

This is a combo of designs that I made and remixed which now works great for my Ikea Lack enclosure.

Materials:

  • 2x PC4-M10 pneumatic connectors.
  • PTFE tubing (4mm outer and 2mm inner)1

Only the sheath requires supports and the optimal line width is 0.5mm for most of the files.

Depending on your setup the filament sensor housing can be mounted or left flying if you have some stiff PTFE tubing and a enclosure wall to hold it in place.

The ribbon clip with no PTFE guide hole was used to manage the ADXL345 ribbon cable I installed past the flying sensor housing along the extruder ribbon.
