This is a convenient carry case for Rubik's cube style puzzles. It keeps your cube protected from damage and dirt!
The lid is held firmly in place thanks to a lip that snaps into a detent on the body, preventing the case from accidentally opening in your backpack. It also has some convenient protrusions for easy opening.
The included 3mf files are designed to fit 56 mm cubes, but the included Fusion 360 design file (.f3d) is parametric, so a different size can easily be generated by changing the inside_length
parameter. I recommend that you add 1 mm to the size of the cube it should fit, so in the case of a 56 mm cube, the inside length is 57 mm.
I printed the parts in PLA on a Prusa i3 MK3S+ with a 0.4 mm nozzle. The majority of the part was printed with 0.2 mm layer height, but the mating parts of the components were printed using 0.15 mm layer height. This might not have been necessary, especially since some post-processing is performed anyways.
Some post-processing of the lid is needed in order to achieve a good fit with the case body. A piece of sand paper and a utility knife was used to slowly reduce the size of the lip on the lid, until a desired holding strength was reached.
