DEMO VIDEO:

I made various versions of the rain protection. According to my experience, this camera stands even strong and long rains pretty well without any protection if you just glue the top side of the camera with a scotch tape. This is needed because there are mic and speaker holes on the top of the camera. But scotch tape is not easy to remove sometimes and it makes the sound very dull, so I made this cover that can be easily put on when the rain starts and removed when the rain ends. The “umbrella” version of the cover allows to get more clear videos under the rain because less (or none) raindrops cover the lens. Use two 2.5 mm holes with rubber strings to fix the cover to the camera if you use it during stormy winds.

The operation button works fine with this cover and the blinking red LED is seen through it (at least with my black PETG).

I also made a ring that can be used with transparent tape as cheap and replaceable lens protection from rain, dust and scratches. The ring is made of 2 parts, you should put any transparent tape between them. I made 3 versions of the outer ring to be able to use various tapes of different thickness:
thin: 0.1 mm gap
average: 0.2 mm gap
thin: 0.3 mm gap

Use try-and-see method to find the ring that fits with your tape better. The ring also protects the lens from scratches because it is slightly longer than the lens (the original yi4k ring doesn't protect the lens from scratches because it is shorter than outer part of the lens).

PS: I know there are underwater cases for yi4k but I'm not going to swim with this camera, I use it as a dash-cam for bike trips only. Simple rain protection is more than enough for me and I'm not going to pay $30 for the stuff that can be printed for $0.30 :)

As always, photos of your prints are welcome!
