Workshop Stool Brackets for Common Cut Lumber (UK)

A Workshop Stool Design Using Common Pre-cut Lumber (pine) that you can find at Wickes (UK), held together with printed parts. It will require basic woodworking skills, and you will need to make/provide your own design for the seat (the part you actively sit on).

Materials

You will need:

• Between 3-4m of 34mm square cut lumber to use as the legs (~800mm per leg)
• A 28mm round dowel, to use for leg stretchers
• At least 40 wood screws for mounting brackets and holders

The wood (pine) listed above is available at Wickes stores for a good price.

Note: this design assumes that you will make/provide your own seat

Assembly

To assemble:

1. Print out 8x Leg Brackets (4x for attaching to the seat, and 4x to act as feet)
2. Print out at least 8x Leg Stretchers (16x is recommended), to tie each leg to its neighbour on each side
3. Cut the 34mm lumber into 4x lengths for the legs, and secure brackets to each side of the cut length. For a high stool these should measure ~800mm in length. Note that the brackets have an indicator on one corner, ensure that this always faces the centre of the stool/seat. Cut off any excess, so ends are flush with the brackets.
4. Attach the legs + brackets to the seat; pay attention that the brackets have an indicator on one corner, ensure that this always faces the centre of the stool/seat. Note: this design assumes that you will make/provide your own seat.
5. Attach Leg Strechers mounts to each leg, offsetting the height for each adjacent pair. I ended up putting on 2x strecthers per leg, a lower and higher one. Measure distance from the edge of each strecher mount, and then cut 28mm dowel to length, before sliding this piece in and securing in place with screws.
