Got tired of my bits being jumbled up in a clamshell box
Wanted to 3D print an organizer
I wanted to print it in PLA because that's what I have multiple colors of for labeling
There's an integrated flexure that keeps your bits retained without a friction fit or magnets
The flexure is (nominally) not under load when in use, so it shouldn't creep over time - yay PLA!
I'm also sharing the STEP of the "module" so you can go nuts remixing it
No supports needed
Make sure you have enough perimeters that the flexure is all perimeters. It's a pretty thin flexure, so it might be fine with just 2 perimeters - I'm only calling this out in case you are going wacky with your extrusion width :)
The module is meant to be integrated into other designs! Go wild!
I also uploaded my 10 bit labeled holder complete with bit of a shelf extension so that the holder doesn't wobble too much.
Here's a link to the Onshape document so that you can make a copy and make the labeled holder of your dreams!
All you need to do is enter a comma separated list of your bit labels. Don't separate the labels with spaces or anything else.
There's a bit of custom FeatureScript (thanks, Claude) that parses this string and figures out how many bits you're using.
Thanks also to Joshua Newth's "Text" FeatureScript that makes text patterning more possible!
The rest of the CAD is built around patterning that will scale based on what you've entered!
The part name will auto update to name the file with an indicator of how many bits are being held as well as what those bits are.
I bet it'll break for <3 bits, but oh well.
Yup, the CAD is ugly as hell. Done is better than perfect, after all :)
