System 58: very small boxes "pico" and "nano"; FreeCAD included

These are two very small boxes out of the System 58 collection of sorting boxes. They can be used standalone for small items or they can be used with the smaller inserts to give them even smaller compartments.

The sizes are:

  • Nano: outside 122×71mm, 33mm high; inside 116×58mm, 31mm high; 2 basic inserts

  • Pico: outside 64×71mm, 33mm high; inside 58×58mm, 31mm high; 1 basic insert

Printing

Normally any material will be fine for those boxes. Only minimal supports are needed.

I included GCode for Prusa MINI+ and MK4s (w/ HF0.4 nozzle) using PLA.

If you want to use a different material or a different printer: start from one of the included Prusaslicer project files (*.3mf) and adjust your settings.

Printing from STL

Print the Box standing normally. No supports are needed. I would recommend to increase the number of perimeters, since it prints faster if the slicer does not attempt to create infill.

Turn the lid upside down and print with bed supports for the protrusion of the lock/hinge at the front. Make sure you only use supports from the print bed, so that the slicer does not clog up the hinges at the back.

The hinge/lock should be printed lying flat on the bed. No supports needed.

Assembly

You can connect the hinges at the back of box+lid with a short piece of filament. Lock the filament in place with a single drop of super glue at one side - make sure to only glue it to the box, not the lid. The same works for the hinge/lock at the front.

I chose GPL deliberately: I want this design to remain free. Feel free to print as many as you like, feel free to sell your prints.
