Simple design, fully adaptable, easy to print
No supports required
This fully adaptive bed holder is designed to securely hold e-book readers and tablets while allowing comfortable, hands-free reading in bed.
The construction focuses on flexibility, stability, and ease of printing, while remaining modular and customizable.
The idea was to create a fully adaptable, modular bed-mounted holder that:
can be printed without supports
is easy to assemble
allows hands-free reading
works with different devices and bed setups
does not require permanent installation or damage to furniture
The design prioritizes comfort, adjustability, and simplicity while remaining sturdy enough for daily use.
Modular Components
6 sizes from 9 to 14 mm (delete or remove the ones you don’t need)
Recommended: measure your e-book reader and add +1 mm
Connected to the different systems using a ball joint, which can be secured at multiple angles
Simple 4-feet stand with an insert for the ball joint
Fully adjustable rods in different size ranges:
50–106 mm
90–185 mm
118–257 mm
158–346 mm
Friction-based locking (no tools required during use)
Measuring tips:
When using the bed frame clamp, measure from the top of your bed frame border to the top of the mattress
When using the mattress insert for borderless beds, measure the height of the mattress
If the final height still doesn’t fit, you can print a separate adapter (included in the print files)
Adjustable Clamp from 10-27mm (you can ask if you need more)
The locking screw has a snapfit head, just push it inside the head
Inserted under the mattress with adaptable hirth joint in 10° steps
The adapter adds an height of 47mm, so keep that in mind when choosing the rod
Also locking screw has a snapfit head, just push it inside the head
a Small joint to connect to the top of the rod
Adapter in different sizes:
20 mm
40 mm
60 mm
80 mm
In the pictures gallery there are drawings how to assemble each unit.
Print Settings
I used PLA for the majority of parts
I recommend printing on a high-temperature smooth build plate, especially for the extendable rods, to ensure a perfect fit
I also tested the textured plate, but connecting the rod parts is more difficult on the first attempt
For the clamp, I recommend PETG, as it does not lose its original shape over time
PLA also works
Layer height:
0.16 mm in my printing profile
Use this at least for the ball joints and extension rods
