Stepper motor fans for Flashforge AD5X and Adventurer 5M

Want to cool your stepper fans (and other rear section components) but don't want a complete back panel replacement? Here's your solution!

These attachments suit a 4010 or 4020 fan each. There are several options for powering them - USB, DC adapter, secondary MCU, hijacking the printer's PSU; on the 5X there's the option of hijacking the IFS power supply, or controlling it through an IFS Jacker - it's up to you how you want to achieve that.

Two versions of the main unit, as well as some accessory parts, are provided:

• If you have access to TPU, I recommend using V2.0. You will need to print the main body in a rigid filament of your choice, and the seals in TPU 95A or softer.

• Otherwise, use V1.1. This prints as a single piece using a rigid filament of your choice.

• There's also a TPU seal for on the fan side. The seal can be used with either version (though - if you've got TPU, why are you using V1.1?).

• A "flat" and "gap" fan guard plate are also provided. These are optional. You can use both of them together to insert a small sheet of filter carbon, mesh, or whatever else you want; or you can just use the flat one alone. Or you can use an entirely different one. If you want a fully-printed one that's quite fine, I've got a model for that!

For obvious reasons you will need to make two of these. Aside from the printed parts, you will need per unit:

• 4010 or 4020 fan (and a way to power it)

• 4x M3 screws, length depends on your exact setup, try M3x14 (4010) or M3x25 (4020) as a starting point

• 3~5 round magnets, 8x2mm

• Some superglue to attach the magnets (and optionally the TPU seal on the output side)

• (Optional) Mesh or carbon sheet or similar to go inside the fan guard

No supports or special print settings are required; just remember to print slow with the TPU.

I can personally confirm that these fit the Flashforge AD5X, including when fitted with a Torreva enclosure. Other users have also confirmed compatibility with the Flashforge Adventurer 5M and 5M Pro.

V1.1 compared to the original version has some improvements to the "lip" that protrudes into the tension screw slot, as well as a better design for the fan screw holes. V2.0 includes these improvements as well as the TPU seal.
