I needed a simple detachable filament spool holder and was impressed by the "Mendel Snap-in Filament Spool Holder" by rhmorrison, ( http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:22292 ) but I have a history of knocking spools off of my existing holder. The results of my thought process is this - a holder with latches to hold the spool shaft in place on the brackets and also to hold the brackets to the Mendel Prusa printer. I have also made a set of cones to cover the range of spools from 3/4" ID (Taulman) to 74mm ID (KDI) and some nuts which can be quickly cliped onto the shaft, tightened to take up play between the cones and then locked in place. Two more sets of these nuts have been fitted to locate the brackets to the top rail

Instructions

The brackets and cones can be made in PLA at about 25% infill. The twist lock things should be PLA or ABS in 100% fill while the clip on nuts should be in ABS at 100% fill. One 608 bearing should be fitted to each cone. Depending on your calibration you may need to warm the cones up to 70 degrees C to push the bearings fully home.
