I bought a USB volume control knob off AliExpress, and while it works very well, the casing was made from laser cut acrylic and not really what I want. I wanted to mount it in my car to use with an Android Auto head unit, so I also wanted to integrate it into the mounting for that. I think the original units are surplus or have been stripped from some other piece of equipment, and not made brand new. The PCB is marked "SmartKeyBoard_EC11" and "303SMARKE12".
This model is my first attempt at just making a nice case, and I think it has worked out pretty nicely. The PCB is sandwiched between the case halves, and the top of the encoder fits tightly against the upper case, so you can screw a nut down onto the post, although I don't think that's really necessary.
You will need 4x M3x4.2x5 heat-set inserts and 4x M3x8 socket head machine screws (approx 5.5 dia, 2.7mm depth head). M3x5 would probably work fine too.
The Fusion 360 file is included for customisation to whatever you want to do with it. It probably needs more material around the heat-set inserts.
The author marked this model as their own original creation.
