Update 2023-07-03:

I'm updating this model slightly after testing it in the real-world for a while:

  • Added higher rails to each side to better support the back-end
  • Switched to PETG as the heat from my rack caused the PLA to sag over time.

Description

This is a 1U rackmount adapter that allows you to rack-mount a TP-Link ER7206 Omada VPN router. It includes a passthrough window for ease of cable routing from your WAN connection.

Parts Required

This adapter is split into two pieces so that it fits on a standard print bed. To join the two halves together, you will need:

  • 2x M4 hex nuts
  • 2x M4-12 cap head screws

Print Instructions

The assembly in the pictures was printed at the following settings:

  • Printer: Prusa i3 MK3S
  • Print Settings
    • 0.2mm layer height
    • 3 shells sides
    • 5 shells top and bottom
    • 20% infill
  • Filament: PolyTerra Charcoal Black PLA
  • Supports: none
  • Brim: none

Assembly Instructions

  1. Print both halves of the assembly:
    1. If trying to match the powdercoat of your rack, print both halves with their faceplates pointing down into the bed.
      1. NOTE: printing in this orientation means your printer must bridge a 1" air gap and you may get some strings that need trimmed off.
    2. If you don't care about the appearance of the front plate, print them flat with faceplates standing vertical.
  2. Print both provided backstops and use whichever one brings your router flush with the front of the assembly. The backstops have one thicker side which faces the front of the assembly.
  3. Use two M4-12 bolts and nuts to join both halves of the assembly together.
  4. Mount empty assembly in your rack.
  5. NOTE: the router slides in from the front but IS NOT MECHANICALLY SECURED into the assembly. Add some double-sided tape on the shelf if you want to secure it in-place.
  6. Enjoy your sweet rack-mounted network appliances!
