The badge was designed to not use mechanical switches. Unacceptable.

PDF

This is a participation to Disobey 2026 badge hardware mod contest! A 3D-printed plate to hold Cherry MX -style switches, with enough space for soldering. The file is created from the STEP-files that are available on the Disobey's website.

Story behind the mod

I quickly looked at the STEP-file, that was provided before the event and noticed something awful. Yep, you probably noticed it as well. Alps SKPMAME-010 switches. Eww. I thought we were friends. This is a gamepad.

Everybody knows that SKPMAME-010 switch is not optimised for GAMING with their 1.57N actuation force! To ensure the gaming-optimal switch and advantage in the event against newbs, I had to do something. And now here we are!

Considerations

Since this is created by using the STEP-file and the 3D-print has not been tested with a physical badge, take these into consideration:

  • The print / mod is attached to the badge with tight tolerances, good intentions. thoughts & prayers

  • Requires desoldering of original NON-MECHANICAL AWFUL ALPS-switches and soldering some wire directly to MX switches' legs

  • 🚨You might break your badge by doing this mod!🚨

    • I wouldn't hold me responsible for this, since you trusted a random person's 💩post mod in a hacker conference and decided to do it to your badge

    • By doing this mod, you hold full responsibility on what happens to your badge!

Installation

  1. Print the model

  2. Desolder original awful Alps-switches

  3. Pick your favorite MX-style switches

    1. Creator's recommendation: Mint Chocolate Chip POM switches

  4. Solder jumper wires to the pads but not to the switches!

  5. Put the mod into place and hope that it fits

  6. Solder the switches' feet into the jumper wires you soldered earlier

  7. Pwn or whatever you use the badge for
