The dosing funnel simplifies the puck prep process. It allows for convenient dosing of ground coffee into the Pixapresso basket. It also allows for the coffee tamper to be inserted evenly into the basket without tilting. When tamping the coffee puck, the ground coffee stays in the funnel, preventing it from spilling out. This improves the quality of the coffee puck.
The funnel does not have internal threads for screwing into the basket, but it fits tightly enough to prevent it from falling in. The funnel can be placed on the portafilter holders of your coffee grinder.
Use my coffee tamper with the funnel for the best puck prep.
The print settings are the same as your printer's default settings. I recommend using a 0.4 nozzle. It's important to use non-toxic or food-grade plastic, such as PETG. PLA may not be suitable due to its brittleness. The final choice is at your discretion. My recommended settings, different from the default:
3 perimeters
layer height 0.1 - for a smoother inner surface, which will prevent coffee from getting stuck
Infill 15% gyroid
Measure out the desired amount of coffee. I use a double dose of 16 grams.
Assemble the basket and insert it into the funnel.
Insert the basket into the portafilter holder of the coffee grinder. Grind the coffee.
Use the WDT tool to break up any clumps of coffee in the grounds.
Insert the tamper into the funnel and press firmly.
Leave the tamper in the basket and remove the funnel. Brush any coffee dust off the tamper and basket.
Use a twisting motion to remove the tamper from the basket. Your coffee puck is ready to brew.
