I had a clear idea on how I wanted to position my C270 camera in front of my Prusa i3 Mk3S. It had to be a fold-able tripod, but with a flexible arm between tripod and camera. I could not find anything on Thingiverse that would have met my expectations completely, so I decided to design an adapter piece that connects two very nice existing design.
I started with the great tripod design from JSDesigns
https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:325876
and printed that in the original Prusament PETG orange, so it fits perfectly to the printer design.
Then I turned to the very nicely done articulated arm that is part of a design from luc_e
https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1228521
I loaded one piece of the arm into FreeCad and designed a new part with the same dimensions as the arm part on one side, but with a cylinder and a base ring that fits exactly in the tripod from JSDesigns.
This adapter part is the actual posting here, all other parts in the photos are from either of the above mentioned postings.
Since I was not sure if a 2mm overhanging base ring would print nicely without support, I have printed two pieces right away, one with a 2mm ring and one with a 1mm ring. In the end I used the part with the 2mm ring because that looks slightly nicer on the tripod, but the surface quality on the lower side of the ring is of course not perfect. Chose yourself.
Happy reprinting!
