Secret Storage Book - Mountain Dragon

The Secret Storage Book – Mountain Dragon Edition is the fourth release in my Ornate Book series, created in response to the strong popularity of the first dragon-themed book in the collection. This design expands on the theme with a more expansive and detailed scene.

This decorative storage container is designed to resemble a classic embossed fantasy tome, featuring a fully realized dragon set within a dramatic mountain landscape. Inspired by traditional high-fantasy book art, the design emphasizes scale and atmosphere, presenting the dragon as part of a larger, rugged world rather than a standalone symbol. The embossed relief gives the cover a sculptural, carved appearance that plays with light and shadow.

Designed to blend naturally into a bookshelf or display, the book discreetly conceals a practical storage compartment inside while maintaining the look of a solid, decorative volume. The interior is well suited for storing small personal items, keepsakes, or hobby accessories, and works especially well for items such as tabletop gaming dice, tokens, or similar collectibles.

The model is optimized for easy 3D printing.

The internal paper-look storage box prints as a separate part and is fixed into the book cover using just a couple of drops of glue.

MAGNETS:

The lid is held shut using 4 × cylindrical magnets (5mm × 3.0mm).
Magnets are glued into pre-sized recesses.

 PRINTING RECOMMENDATIONS:

• • Material: PLA

• • Layer height: 0.2 mm recommended (0.15 mm optional)

• • Perimeters: 2

• • Infill: ~10%

• • Supports: Not required

For best embossing quality, print the book standing upright.
A 5mm brim is recommended for bed adhesion.


HINGES:

The print-in place hinges are designed with 0.3 mm clearance and may fuse slightly.
After printing, gently flex the cover to release them.

 For extra durability:

• Add a 4 mm tall modifier cylinder on the hinges

• Set it to 4 perimeter layers (or 100% infill)

Pre-made PrusaSlicer project files are included with this modifier already applied.

Scaling: Feedback from users indicates the model scales well down to 80%, with the print-in-place hinges remaining functional. However, this has not been personally verified, and results may vary depending on printer and settings.


CUSTOM BACK TEXT:

The back cover supports custom recessed text. Add your favorite book-title directly in the slicer!

In PrusaSlicer:

• Add Text Modifier

• Set to “Cut”

• Depth: 1.2 mm

• Select the desired font and adjust size and positioning

 A ready-made text modifier is included in the .3mf files

Tip: If you plan to use the fully embossed book as a decorative desk-piece, rotate the book cover text so the text reads from top to bottom. This will ensure the text is the correct way up when the book is laying on the table.
