I designed this probe to help me determine the z variance of my spoil board but it could also be used to help build a mesh for uneven stock.  The probe is designed to press-fit over the endmill.  It is possible to modify the probe to attempt to achieve a consistent z-offset for more generic probing operations.

I have used this probe primarily with UGS but it could be used for any relative probing operations. I used this microlimit switch but any similar switch could be used. For me, the switch is wired in a "normally open" configuration, and this may vary based on how your particular board handles probing.

If the switch is attached in reverse of how it is shown here, it can be used to help tram the tool head.
