This part replaces the geared idler with a smooth bearing for improved extrusion consistency.
I have found that this part was able to solve the extrusion consistency problem I was experiencing and improved the surface finish of my walls. This upgrade requires a single $0.50 part and has worked fantastically for me so I want to share it with the world!
While this wont fix all extrusion related issues, I hope it will be able to help you get higher quality 3D prints!
1x - 693ZZ Bearing (8mm OD / 3mm ID / 4mm Thickness)
(Ensure you verify dimensions of the bearing you order. Some bearings do not meet the 4mm spec)
*** This is the only additional part you need from the standard BOM! ***
1x - 3mm x 20mm Pin (Re-Use your old part)
1x - M3 Heat Set (M3 / 5mm OD / 4mm Length)
1x - M3 x 16mm SHCS (Re-Use your old part)
Standard Voron print settings
Confirm the dimensions of the 693ZZ bearing you purchased. Pay close attention to the 4mm thickness dimension as some bearings I have ordered do not meet the spec despite being advertised as having 4mm thickness.
Insert the heat set insert into guidler "A" in accordance with the standard assembly instructions.
Connect guidler "A" and "B" using the M3x16mm SHCS in accordance with the standard assembly instructions.
Place the 693ZZ bearing on the 3mm pin, align it with the gap in the guidler, and snap it in place in accordance with the standard assembly instructions.
Done!
If you are installing this on an existing printer, I recommend re-calculating extruder rotation distance (mine changed by ~1.5% post installation)
Please post your makes and let me know how it works out for you!
Modification requests may be entertained. If you have requests please post them in the chat.
