A tool for helping with making pom-poms. Made them in 3 different sizes for now, the outer diameter of the jig roughly corresponds with the size of the pom-pom you'll make.
It's modeled off a design I used when younger but I have long since lost that tool, so I remodeled it for 3D printing!
I might make a even bigger on in the future. Re-scaling the model should also work. It needs a quite thick yarn or a lot of windings to make bigger ones though.
I printed it laying down, 4 pieces at a time
20% infill
Only support on the blue marked part

The 30 mm one is tiny and would be best to do with a nozzle smaller than 0,4, but it works. Its not critical.
You need 4 copies of a piece to make a pom-pom.
Take 2 pieces, place them back-to-back and start winding your selected yarn around the arc. The more you wind and what yarn you've chosen will affect how dense your pom-pom will be. Repeat with the other two pieces.
When you're done winding, loosely tie of and cut the yarn.
Then slide the pieces together so that they form a circle
Now cut the yarn along the groove all the way around the outside edge. I use a utility knife, but scissors should work if you don't wind too tightly.
Take another piece of yarn or string that you want to use to hang or attach your pom-pom to things, and wrap it in the groove around the yarn and tie it together.
Remove the jig from the pom-pom and trim the pom pom to your liking
Done!
Use yarns of different colour in the same pom-pom to add some more style. For example if you wind two yarns at the same time it gets spotted. Or wind it in sections or halves to get a pattern.
The author marked this model as their own original creation.
