A Gingerbread Cottage on a Chicken Leg?

This model is a playful mash-up of two classic fairy-tale motifs: the witch’s cottage that stands on a chicken leg, and the witch’s gingerbread cottage. The first comes from Slavic folklore—particularly Czech tales, where the witch’s hut perches on a single giant chicken leg, turning to face those who call upon it. The second is the edible house from stories such as Hansel and Gretel, where a witch tempts children into a cottage made of sweets.

I thought it would be amusing to combine these two strains of fairy tale—the eerie forest magic of the one-legged hut and the sugary charm of Hansel and Gretel—into a single, whimsical model. The result is a small gingerbread-style cabin balanced on one chicken leg, as if it had just stepped out of a winter fairy tale.

The model’s platform measures 11 × 14 cm, designed to fit the specific gingerbread templates we use (about 10 × 13 cm), with some allowance for the dough puffing up and for assembly. Scaling the model is straightforward—especially if you want to enlarge the platform—but be sure to scale all three axes by the same factor to preserve proportions.

Printing

This is not a demanding print. PLA works perfectly well, with 0.2 mm layer height.
I printed the platform with the back side down and used supports for the chicken leg.
