F-Clamp Cover Replacement - Small Clamps

With this design, I created a replacement for the covers ("shoes") of F-clamps shown in the photos. As long you use the clamps on flat surfaces, this print is a good replacement. Clamping uneven surfaces or even corners is not possible with this print.

This print covers smaller clamps. For medium-sized clamps, have a look at this print.

How to Print this Clamp Holder

There is a Prusa Slicer example project ending in “Print”, where I configured all my recommended settings. The object is printed on its tip and requires a brim.

Postprocessing

After printing, remove the brim and sand the corners at the tip until they are round and smooth.

For a perfect fit: Put the cover on the clamp, then use a heat gun and heat up the printed part. Now carefully press the cover to the clamp and in a second step, fasten the clamp lightly on a flat surface.

Dimensions

To find the right dimensions for your cover, use callipers to measure the dimensions H, W, Land C as shown in the image above.

• W: The foot width at its widest point. Add 0.5mm to the foot width and round to the next integer.
• H: The average height of the foot sides. Best measure at the line shown in the image.
• L: Measure the width as shown and round-up. This is not very critical, because the cover is flexible and can stretch 1-2mm at this point.
• C: The required length of coverage. Here, I just created models for 40mm.
• T: The height of the tip from the base of the shoe. Here, all models use an average value of 24mm.

The filename and part number of the models have the following format:

LR2220-W25-H4_0-L12-C40-T24

The individual measurements are prefixed with the letter W, H, L, C and T as shown in the illustration above. For W, the decimal point is replaced by an underscore character.

If you have F-clamps with measurements that are not covered by the shoes in this list, but would work with the overall shape, please leave a comment. Best take a photo and write down the measurements with the letters as shown, brand and part number of the clamp. I will try to add a model with the dimensions to this print.

Conclusion

If you lost some of the covers of your F-clamps, or just like to match the colours, this print should at least give you some options. Yet, be aware, that the prints will never have the toughness of the injection moulded original parts.
