Crown Grip is an assistive device designed for barbers and hairstylists who experience mobility limitations in the wrist, shoulders, or grip strength. It allows users to continue working with their preferred shears without having to purchase expensive specialized shears.

One common challenge with traditional shears is achieving horizontal cuts. This often requires bending the wrist or raising the shoulder, which can become uncomfortable or strenuous over time. Crown Grip helps address this by creating additional spacing, so the user does not need to bring their fingers as close together to close the shears. Most importantly, it allows the thumb to rotate freely up to 360 degrees, enabling more natural cutting angles without excessive wrist bending or shoulder movement.

When you find a pair of shears you love, you want to use them for as long as possible. Crown Grip was designed with that mindset. The goal was to create a single design that fits as many shear styles as possible. While it may not fit every model, the design can be scaled up or down to improve compatibility.

What makes Crown Grip unique?

The device is made up of three separate components:

1. The Crown

Made from TPU 95A, the Crown features flexible spikes designed to fit into most standard metal shear finger holes. The spacing between the spikes allows it to conform to the shape of the finger hole while maintaining a secure fit.

2. The Sceptre (finger hole extension)

Also made from TPU 95A, the Sceptre balances flexibility and stiffness to provide comfort and control. It is customizable, allowing users to add holes, extend the opening, or modify it to suit their personal preferences.

3. The Throne (optional support piece)

The Throne is an optional PETG component that the Sceptre rests on. Its purpose is to help limit over-rotation of the Crown Grip. Whether this piece is needed depends on how much force you apply while using your shears.
