PDF

This is a simple, fun keepsake design made to preserve a penny inside a solid 3D-printed card. The card measures 2 × 3.5 inches and is 2 mm thick, making it compact and easy to store, display, or gift.

The model is designed so you can pause the print mid-way, place a penny into the cavity, and then resume printing to fully encase the coin inside the plastic. Once complete, the penny is securely sealed with no adhesives or extra hardware required.

I created this design as a long-term novelty keepsake, inspired by the idea that pennies are no longer being minted. It’s a small, fun way to save a piece of everyday history for the future.

Printing Notes

  • Pause height: Pause the print just before the top layers close the penny cavity, insert the penny flat, then resume printing.

  • Infill & settings: Infill percentage, wall count, and print settings will vary depending on your printer and filament. Use settings that provide enough strength to fully seal the coin.

  • Supports: Not required.

  • Orientation: Print flat on the bed.

Suggested Filaments

PLA works well for display pieces, but PETG or other materials may be better if you want improved durability or heat resistance.

Use Ideas

  • Time-capsule keepsake

  • Gift or stocking stuffer

  • Conversation piece

  • Personal or family memento

Feel free to remix, customize, or scale the design for other coins or purposes. If you print one, I’d love to see your makes!
