This is a plug-in filter that reduces clogging of the 2 small drain holes in the windshield cowling or rain gutter of 2023 and earlier Ford Transits. I made it for and tested it on my 2022 Transit camper van. It is the result of several iterations and refinements.
If you are interested in making this part, please check your windshield cowling to make sure it has the same type of drain holes as shown in the photo. Transits later than 2023 may have a different drain opening.
Due to its diamond-shaped holes and internal design, this part can be easily printed with no supports, as all unsupported angles are at least 45 degrees. I printed mine in PETG, 0.15mm, 100% fill, no supports, and with a brim. It should be printed upside down with the top of the filter against the plate.
It is installed by aligning the slots in the part's stem with the cross-braces in the drain hole. It is a snug friction fit, but to make it more secure, clean the plastic surfaces with alcohol and apply a small amount of silicone sealant around the base of the part before inserting it.
Full disclosure, I do not claim that this is the best solution for keeping the drain unplugged. Some people have cut scrub pads to shape and pressed them into the trough. This seems like a viable solution to me, maybe even better than this one.
That being said, similar 3D-printed filters to this one can be found online, with excellent reviews regarding functionality.
