1/7 Scale Buildable Snare Drum Model + Stand
Made by a drummer for drummers! These drums have been carefully 3D modeled to provide a very fun and aesthetic desk or shelf display. At 1/7 scale these drums stand about 4" tall when on the stand.
This is a, more or less, advanced print. I have a LOT of settings applied individually to each item for the versions that I sell. However, you could print these straight and achieve a perfectly workable model.
Snare:
Print the snare primarily in PLA. I use Polymaker SILK chrome for the metal parts, white PolyLite for the head and support, and whichever shell color you desire (Polymaker's matte “wood” colors are cool to me).
The badge I print in a silk silver TPU I found on Amazon. It needs to be TPU in order to get it to fit (flex) into the badge slot, and I use a Philips head watch screwdriver to install it. (I do pre-install these for the ones I sell because it's a little involved compared to everything else in the assembly.)
* I have uploaded a "no badge" version of the "mid" shell piece, that bypasses the need for a TPU badge.
Stand:
The snare stand I print in SILK chrome, aside from the fingers and feet, where I like to use black TPU. If not using flex for those parts, you may have to print them at 101% or something to allow tolerance for them to fit on.
Tips!
1. I recommend checking “print external perimeters first” on everything except the snare tripod and basket. This makes for a much better looking print, but the snare parts need the inverse to fit properly and consistently.
2. I find .2mm layer height works on everything, but I use .12mm on the tripod and basket due to their diagonal sections.
3. I have versions of a few of the models uploaded with custom supports. Namely, the snare tripod, snare stem, snare basket, and the 2 hoop parts. These custom supports work well for me, but your printer may vary. Generally, where needed, I use organic supports, if not my own custom supports. Go slow on the hoops when removing supports if you use the custom supports version!
4. The stem is slightly a-symmetrical. I print it vertically for the best look and for one reason or another it prints asymmetrically, so I adjusted the model to compensate. It may also help to print the stem on a raft.
These were made to sell on my website and are a bit complicated, but I hope they are useful to some of you printers who either are or have drummer friends who could benefit from the prints. I think they're a really cool desk ornament, and I'm working on modeling out a whole set! (Lots of work).
I think STEP files will be useful too and I will upload those too when I can!
Thank you for viewing and enjoy!
