Modular LED light that resembles the iconic Star Wars Imperial Light pattern on Star Destroyers and on Death Star.

Printing:

  • 01 lamp body
Make sure your first layer is perfect, this will be the front face of your lamp. Print it with PLA/PETG/ABS or your favorite material, if you don't want to paint, then preferably grey!

  • 02 lampshade
This will be your translucent part, first layer quality is also important here. If you previously printed with anything else than white, make sure you clean your nozzle & flush enough filament that your end result will be perfectly white without stains on it. By design it is 0.4 mm thick, 2 layers with 0.2 mm layer thickness. If you inted to use your light on high brightness levels you may simply scale it to 0.6 or even 0.8. Illustration on pictures are made 0.4 mm, 2 layers. Print it with your preferred material, white color!

  • 03 backplate
This is the part where your LED strip finally goes! You can print this at faster speeds. Your preferred material and basically any color.

Assembly:

  1. (optional) Paint your 01 lamp body the color you want. I picked aluminum metallic spray paint as I ran out of grey filament and could only order different shade of grey.

  2. Face down the 01 lamp body, as you printed it.

  3. Apply some glue at corners, sides and bridge points as you can see on the picture.

  4. Insert 02 lampshade into the 01 lamp body the opposite direction as it is printed (so bottom layer will be facing upwards). I intentionally did not use superglue to avoid stains.

  5. Place your 03 backplate as it is printed on a desk and fit your LED strip parts, due all wiring. Make sure you use 60 led/m, either RGB or RGBW or WW/CW, you preferred choice. Initially I started with 3 strips, ended up with 2 rows of LEDs, 3 seemed to be too much.

  6. Now you are ready to make the final move in your assembly process, flip the 03 backplate and use M2,5 or M3 x 8 screws to fix it on 01 lamp body.

  7. (optional) The 01 lamp body has 2 mm holes on each side at 9 mm (half of the standard 18 mm thick furniture material) so you can fix it as I did on the illustration into a cabinet or wherever you want.
