Keep Your Network Cool

I run my UniFi Flex Mini switches at high capacity at my desk, and I noticed they can get quite warm. While the original smooth faceplate design looked clean, I needed a solution that prioritized thermal performance without sacrificing the aesthetics of my 10-inch rack setup.

This is a remix of the excellent dimensional fix by Mihir, adding a functional hexagonal (honeycomb) mesh to the front and interior walls. This allows for passive airflow around the devices, ensuring they stay cool even under heavy network loads.

  • High-Airflow Design: Hex pattern allows heat to escape rather than building up inside the rack mount.

  • Perfect Fit: Retains the corrected dimensions of the remix (fits standard 10-inch racks perfectly).

  • Dual Slots: Mounts two Ubiquiti UniFi Flex Mini 5-port switches in 1U of space.

Print Instructions

I have included a .3mf project file specifically set up for PrusaSlicer (tested on MK4S).

  • Material: PETG recommended (for heat resistance and flexibility), but PLA will work for lower temp environments.

  • Infill: 15% Grid.

  • Supports: The .3mf file includes painted-on supports specifically for the internal back side of the switch holes.

    • Note: The hexagonal face does not need supports if your printer has decent bridging cooling.

  • Files Included:

    • .3mf (Project file with supports/layout)

    • .bgcode (Ready to print for MK4S MMU users)

    • .stl (Universal mesh for other slicers - requires adding your own supports)

    • .step (For further remixing in CAD)

    • Dimensions Drawing .pdf (Quick reference for hole spacing and rack sizing)

Note on File Formats:

  • .3mf: Recommended! Includes print orientation and custom painted-on supports.

  • .stl: Raw geometry only. If you use this, you will need to generate your own supports for the internal switch ports.

Differences of the remix compared to the original

This model is based on "Unifi Flex Mini 2x 10in Rack" by Mihir. I utilized their corrected geometry regarding the rack width and switch tolerances but rebuilt the switch housing to accommodate a ventilation pattern.
