These Christmas star ornaments combine soft, organic shapes with crisp geometry to create a modern yet warm seasonal aesthetic. Selected variants can be transformed through a special puffing technique, while others remain flat and minimalist, allowing you to mix styles for a balanced decorative arrangement.
Puffing is a simple post-processing method where the stars are briefly immersed in boiling water. During this process, the surface softens and gently expands due to the heated air inside, creating a rounded, natural, almost hand-shaped appearance. This gives each ornament its own character and a pleasantly organic feel.
Puffing is done in boiling water for a period that is not precisely defined and depends on the properties of the filament and the wall thickness of the print. For stars and hearts, it takes approximately 15–30 seconds. If the time is too long, unwanted secondary deformation may occur.
The puffing technique acts as a subtle reminiscence of traditional glassmaking, echoing the way hollow Christmas ornaments were once inflated by breath.
For the puffing effect to work properly, the model should be printed from PLA or Silk PLA. These materials soften evenly during the hot-water step, allowing the surface to expand and round out without losing stability.
The material used in the photos is PM Silk Dark Pink and PM Silk Golden Glory.

To achieve the best result:
Print large face down on the build plate
Use 0% infill
Enable supports only under the hanging loop
This setup ensures controlled puffing, proper expansion, and a clean finish on the visible surfaces.
The printing of these items is very fast and requires very little filament, as they contain no infill.
Ideal for Christmas trees, wreaths, garlands, or modern table décor. Combining puffed and flat variants brings depth, variation, and a contemporary touch to your holiday decorations.
