Mads Vortex Shade

The Mads Vortex Shade is a precision-engineered spiral lampshade designed specifically for vase-mode printing.
Its continuous vortex geometry forms a seamless single-wall surface, producing a clean, fluid twist with excellent light diffusion.
It prints exceptionally well in PETG (the images show a similar shade printed in transparent smoke-grey PETG), and also works with lightly translucent materials if a softer glow is preferred.

A 1.8 mm recessed base accommodates E14 or E27 fixtures.
A 1.2 mm bottom thickness is recommended for reliability.
All four sizes — S, M, L, and XL — preserve identical proportions and curvature, scaling consistently across different printer classes.

Recommended Print Settings

• Required: Vase Mode / Spiralize Outer Contour
• Layer height: ≤ 50% of nozzle diameter
  (e.g., 0.20 mm for 0.4 mm nozzle, 0.25 mm for 0.5 mm nozzle)
• Nozzle: 0.4 mm or larger
• Extrusion width: ~200% of nozzle diameter for the outer wall
• Bottom layers: up to 1.8 mm (1.2 mm recommended)
• Top layers: none
• Infill: 0%
• Speed: moderate for the cleanest surface finish

Material: PETG (transparent, tinted, or lightly translucent).

Optional — Mild Perlin Fuzzy Skin (OrcaSlicer)

• Point distance: 0.4 mm
• Strength: 0.2 mm
• Feature size: 3 mm
• Octaves: 5
• Persistence: 0.75

Adds a subtle, even micro-texture that softens reflections and enhances the shade’s optical depth.

Included Files

Each size is supplied in two versions:

• E14 (28 mm opening)
• E27 (40 mm opening)

A total of 8 high-resolution STL files, ranging from 400–750 MB.
These models intentionally contain 8.5–15 million triangles for uncompromising surface smoothness.
Large-mesh warnings in slicers are expected and do not indicate an issue.

Customization

Custom variations are available on request, including:

• alternate opening diameters for specific fixtures
• proportional resizing beyond S/M/L/XL
