Hotwheels Lightning McQueen Car Key

Description

Parts to rehouse a Mazda 3 2017 car key into a 2023 Lightning McQueen Hotwheels. See my blog post for more information.

Print Instructions

• Supports required for the large grey piece
• All parts are in correct printing orientation

Assembly

1. Pry apart Mazda 3 2017 car key, make sure to remove the metal piece from the battery holding compartment.
2. Place the metal piece in the light blue piece (pictured above), aligning the “slot and hole” of the metal piece with the “dot and dash” on the printed piece. It should only fit one way.
3. Drill open the rivets of the 2023 Lightning McQueen Hotwheels and pry it apart. Discard the original plastic bottom.
4. Carefully cut and grind down the metal posts inside the Hotwheels to fit the key in.
5. Snap in the wheel axles into the grey piece (pictured above). Then place the buttons (green, pictured above) in the button wells in the order: "KA-CHOW", "UN-CHOW" and "BOOTY-CHOW" corresponding to "lock", "unlock" and "open the boot" respectively.
6. Place the circuit board of the car key onto the grey piece, with the battery contact facing up.
7. Place the battery in the battery holder, then place it upside down (so that the battery is touching the contacts) on top of the car key circuit board.
8. Carefully assemble the rest of the Hotwheels with hot glue.
