About

I have a hard time swallowing the price of a name-brand Pi and started with an Orange Pi 3LTS. Took a bit more work to find some things, but it does its job faithfully in the house.

I scored a deal on an Orange Pi 3B which has some cool features like an M.2 Slot for NVME! The GeeekPi Cooler is probably a bit overkill, but it is fun to look at and cheap enough also.

The mount holes for the Orange Pi 3B are the same as the Raspberry Pi 4B/3B which lets you take advantage of cases or other mods that people have come up with. I assumed that the SBC would be in the same location as the actual Pi (or rather didn't think about it at all!)

This is a simple model made to get that cooler lined up.

If you bought a black cooler, they probably painted over the heat pipes at the bottom. sanding that off will certainly help conduct heat better.

Initially I made the legs flat like the stock laser cut metal bits, but found that it leaves a gap between the beloved Rockchip and the cooler. Maybe a different size heat pad would clear the gap, but I offset the mount holes instead.

Printing

Nothing too special about printing this. I typically print with 3 walls and alternating extra layer to smush that infill.

I also printed at .12mm layer height. This should add some strength and make it look a bit less dookie as they are pretty small to begin with. A .2 nozzle would also probably help, but I am lazy.

The examples were printed in ASA (because I am lazy and it was in the printer already), but PLA/PETG/ whatever should work fine. PETG may actually work better than ASA here as its a bit more flimsy when printed thin.

Assembly

Make sure the fan is pointed opposite the short leg side, or you wont be able to put the screw in.

It might feel a little flexy, but once installed it seems pretty skookum.

Let me know if you used this. I would love to see. If you want changes made, let me know too!
